S-P gas set to supply southern provinces

A local gas manufacturer in Champassak province plans to supply S-P cooking gas for households, hotels, and restaurants in four southern provinces as demand for the product continues to grow.

S-P Gas Company Director Mr Souksakhone Keophilavanh told local media recently that the opening of the gas supplier comes in response to the government and provincial authorities' policy to promote the domestic manufacturing industry and reduce dependence on imports from abroad.

In early 2015, the company sought permission from the government to establish the Siamphone cooking gas factory in Oupadath village, Phonthong district at cost of 5 billion kip.

It shall be the first international standard and high safety cooking gas factory in the province.

The company has a blue S-P trademark and many s of cylinders to service their customers.

It provides 48 kg cylinders for hotels, guesthouses and restaurants, 15kg cylinders for households, and 4kg cylinders for people going on picnics or tours.

He said currently the company produces and sells cooking gas in Champassak province and already has more than 10 suppliers of its products in Pakxe and some outlying districts of the province.

The company can sell around 1,000 cylinders per month, Mr Souksakhone said. He expects this figure to continue to rise in the years ahead as demand is continuing to grow.

Soon, the company plans to export its products to other southern provinces including Saravan, Xekong and Attapeu.

However the company called on the government to strictly monitor and prevent the illegal import of cooking gas to promote local business operators and ensure domestic gas producers can continue their operations in the longer term.
