VN goods make debut in large Singapore chain

Vietnamese products are being featured at NTUC FairPrice, Singapore's largest supermarket chain, from June 4-17.

This is the second time such an event has been organised, and a number of new staples are being offered in Singapore, including frozen fish fillets, sapodillas and coconuts.

Vice-chairman of the Singaporean Parliament and managing director of NTUC FairPrice, Seah Kian Peng, stated he has visited Viet Nam several times, during which "pho" (beef/chicken noodle soup) and coffee are his favourite foods, leading him to want to introduce Viet Nam's quality products to consumers in Singapore.

Meanwhile, Viet Nam's Ambassador to Singapore Nguyen Tien Minh noted that the event was part of efforts to expand the presence of Vietnamese goods in the selective Singa-porean market.

In the future, the Vietnamese Embassy will work to bring more Singaporean enterprises to Viet Nam to assist in applying Singa-porean standards in Viet Nam during the production process, said officials.

Additionally, Trade Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy, Nguyen Viet Chi, suggested Viet Nam's small- and medium-d enterprises might take advantage of opportunities being created by the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community at the end of this year, in a bid to expand exports to Singapore.

Trade between the two countries has seen an average growth rate of 12 per cent per year, with Viet Nam's export turnover to Singapore reaching 4 billion SGD (US$2.9 billion).

In early 2015, Viet Nam became one of Singapore's 10 largest trade partners for the first time.
