Lao fashion group seeks overseas markets
Ministry of Silk, a high quality Lao fashion brand marketed by the Society Corporation, opened its second branch in the Vientiane Shopping Centre last Thursday, aiming to promote local products to international markets.
The new branch opening also marked the third anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Silk brand.
CEO and Group Managing Director of Society Corporation, Ms Pany Saignavongs, told media representatives at the function that Laos' integration in the Asean Economic Community will bring better opportunities and a brighter future for Lao fashion products.
“We are looking forward to expanding into more provinces in Laos and also some big cities in Asean countries like Bangkok and Singapore as well as some cities in Europe.”
“That is the plan for two years' time as we are confident that we will get positive feedback from our customers both domestically and globally,” Ms Pany said.
She added that most of the products are made from raw materials obtained in Laos and members of the group contribute their creative and innovative ideas when designing new, original styles.
Since its inception in 2012, the sales volume has been growing at the rate of about 20 percent annually with the main products being under the Ministry of Silk label, including fashion accessories, handbags and shirts for ladies and gentlemen.
Ms Pany also said the Ministry of Silk brand will represent the Lao fashion industry in international markets for years to come.
“We intend to promote local products and, at the same time, are very proud to be the first Lao fashion brand to register an international trademark under the British intellectual property registration, which we did in 2014,” she said.
This means that the brand hopes to open flagship stores in various cities in the world to showcase high end fashion products made in Laos.
Products under the Ministry of Silk brand selling at prices ranging from 300,000 kip to one million kip, which local buyers can afford.
Over the next five years Ministry of Silk will focus on delivering the latest international fashion trends to the Lao fashion industry, both as ready-to-wear garments and haute couture.
They also plan to work with talented designers and textile producers and source materials from local community development projects.
At the same time they intend to continue building a regional and international reputation for high quality fashions and fashion products from Laos.
More Lao products such as handbags, fashion products for women and other handmade products have recently been introduced to members of the public at several shopping malls in Laos.
