Some Lao cement prices down after petrol costs continue to drop
Lao cement factory no. 1 has lowered the price of its cement products after the cost of transportation became cheaper as the fuel price dropped.
The bull brand cement producer in Laos is now selling the green colour product for 690,000 kip per tonne, while the red colour remains at 780,000 kip per tonne, the company's marketing division acting manager, Mr Chittavong Khamphilavan, told Vientiane Times yesterday.
Before March the green coloured product was being sold at 710,000 kip a tone with most of its customers being in Vientiane and Vientiane province, he said.
The second Lao cement factory is still selling its cement products at 720,000 kip per tone for red and 630,000 kip per tone for green.
Officials of the company believe that the price of cement in shops selling construction e quipment in Laos may also come down, however, the price could remain stable while demand is still so high at about 750,000 kip a tonne for green and 800,000 kip per tonne for red.
The price of cement in the shops is higher than the factory as they have to make a little profit after paying for transportation and their workers, Mr Chittavong commented.
At the moment cement production in Laos is sufficient to supply market demand but last year demand reached almost three million tonnes while the manufacturers could only produce a little over one million tonnes.
Motorists are happy after the price of petrol has continued to drop around the world especially in Laos but costs in other areas are still high, especially for food and other things used in daily life.
Bus fares and other passenger fees, however, have shown no movement despite the fuel price having dropped.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce continues to announce reductions in the retail prices of premium grade petrol, regular petrol and diesel at stations nationwide in line with the change in global oil prices.
Currently, petrol stations in Vientiane sell regular grade petrol for 8,060 kip a litre, down from the previous 8,200 kip a litre, while diesel is now 7,060 kip.
In Khammuan and Savannakhet provinces, regular sells at 8,090 kip, while diesel sells for 7,080 kip.
In Champassak province they sell regular petrol for 8,110 kip, and diesel for 7,110kip.
In Bokeo province, regular petrol sells at 8,160 kip and diesel at 7,160 kip, while in Xieng Khuang province regular petrol is 8,270 kip per litre and diesel is 7,270 kip.
The ministry cited plunging global oil prices as the reason for the petrol price decrease.
