Lao t-shirt makers eye New Year sales
Moonphor, a unique Lao t-shirt maker, looks set to launch a larger branch of its retail t-shirt shop in Vientiane, following the positive reaction from local customers.
This year, the shop has also produced a variety of t-shirt products with more different colours, specialising in Lao unique styles and producing the best quality products.
Director of the Lao Ide a Company Limited Mr Souvanny Saleumsok spoke to Vientiane Times yesterday, saying that Moonphor brand shop pays great attention to the quality of its products and the uniqueness of its Lao sty les.
“It means we select the best quality of raw materials such as textiles and screen the coolest or most charming phrases onto our t-shirts, especially those that specifically represent good luck for our customers,” he said.
He went on to say that his Lao brand t-shirts have become widely recognised in Lao society after four years on the market.
“For the coming celebrations over Lao New Year, we are preparing quite a lot of t-shirts for our customers and we hope they will meet the demands of customers,” Mr Souvanny said.
Mr Souvanny, who is also the founder of the Moonphor brand shop, noted that around 90 percent of customers were local people and the rest were foreign residents.
“Some Lao people living ove rseas have also brought some t-shirts to sell at their restaurants abroad as souvenirs but our shop has no plans to export to other countries,” he said.
Meanwhile some retail vendors also order t-shirt products from the shop to sell in the provinces.
Currently government organisations, private companies and the business sector are among the main customers for the shop because they order t-shirts to wear over the Pi Mai Lao celebrations.
“My products are different from other products because our customers can wear them at almost every festival, it isn't only for the New Year celebrations,” he said, adding that the shop stocks t-shirt styles suited to teenagers, parents and children of all ages.
Founded with the idea of preserving the uniqueness of Lao traditions and culture, the shop focuses on a variety of Lao alphabets and art to express the origins of Lao people.
The shirts symbolise different aspects of Lao tradition and culture, comprising the Lao temple motifs, cool phrases and pictures of important Lao sites.
The Moonphor t-shirts brand is available at the night market on the Mekong riverbank or at one of the brand's two retail branches, those being Thongtoum branch in Chanthabouly district and Nongbone branch in Xaysettha district, Vientiane.
Moonphor t-shirts are selling for various different prices, ranging from 60,000 kip each and upwards, however the shop is also offering customers 50 percent off on some items during the upcoming Lao New Year celebrations.
In the middle of this year, the Moonphor brand is planning to open a new larger showroom in nearby That Luang area, which will provide easy access for local and foreign customers.
“By doing so, we can expand our promotion of our fine traditions and culture through the sale of high quality products and the unique designs of Lao artworks,” Mr Souvanny added.
