ALACE Expo promotes architecture and engineering

Over 120 booths from domestic and neigbouring countries are displaying construction materials and equipment, household goods, and advanced construction technology at the ALACE Expo 2015 in Vientiane.

The fair was officially opened yesterday at the Lao-ITECC and is scheduled to close on March 1.

The opening ceremony of the fair as attended by the president and senior advisors of the Association of Lao Architects and Civil Engineers (ALACE), representatives from the Association of Siamese Architects along with media from various organisations.

Manager of the fair Assoc. Prof. Dr Khampaserth Thepvongsa said the fair has been held since 2008 and the association has made significant achievements through the years including an increasing number of members.

The association currently has more than 1,000 members, which have grown steadily in number since it was founded in 2004.

People knew more about the profile, role, and duties of association through this fair, he added.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Khampaserth said the number of booths increases year-on-year, which this year increased from about 90 booths last year to more than 120 booths this time around.

The exhibits are featuring mostly construction materials and equipment, household goods, and advanced technology for construction.

This year's fair has the theme of ‘Lao Architecture Tomorrow,' which is a different theme from the past year of “The ways towards the Asean Economic Community'.

On the morning of the same day, there was annual meeting to review ALACE activities over the period of 2014-2015, which included researching and improving the association's regulations of in some articles.

More than 100 representatives of ALACE members from provinces around the country were in attendance at the opening.

Important senior professional architects fr om both the private and government sectors will be invited to share their experience at a seminar entitled ‘Lao Architecture Tomo rrow.'.

The seminar will also dissemina te information on technology and innovation in regards to modern construction.

There will also be an outstanding design contest from young and senior architects and engineers.

Besides this, there will be meetings to exchange information and experience between domestic and foreign businesspeople on design, consultancy, construction, construction material trading etc.

The ALACE Expo is the leading and largest architectural and engineering event in Laos, attended by architect luminaries, design experts, and affluent potential consumers.

Participation is open to manufacturers, distributors, importers, retailers, designers and others who are interested in marketing, selling and promoting international products and services.

ALACE was founded in 2004 and has been a member of ARCASIA since 2011 and renewed its membership to UIA in 2008.

The association signed Memorandums of Understanding with eight associations from seven countries.

These include the Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) in 2006, Vietnam Association of Architects (VAA) in 2006, Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Association (VFCEA) in 2007, Pertubulan Akiteck Malaysia (PAM) in 2010, Korea Institute of Registered Architects (KIRA) in 2010; Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) in 2011, Ikitan Arsiteck Indonesia (IAI) in 2011 and the Sri-Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) in 2012.
