Stocks make slight gains

Stocks inched up on both exchanges this morning, propped up by bank shares.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange closed up 0.08 per cent to reach 575.28 points, while the VN30, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, advanced by 0.02 per cent to stand at 614.85 points.

Vietinbank (CTG) climbed 2.8 per cent, while the Bank for Investment Development of Vietnam (BID) rose by 1.85 per cent. Others such as Sacombank (STB) and Military Bank (MBB) added about one per cent.

Liquidity was modest, however, with just 54 million shares worth VND887 billion (US$41.4 million) being traded by the end of the morning.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index inched up 0.22 per cent to end at 85.54 points, with the trading value being VND412 billion ($19.3 million).

The trading will resume at 1pm.
