Shares fail to retain gains

Shares fell on both the stock exchanges this morning.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index fell 0.25 per cent to end at 601.62 points. The VN30 Index, tracking the bourse's 30 leading stocks, also lost 0.3 per cent to close at 642.68 points, as the losers outnumbered the gainers by 11 to 4.

The overall trading value reached nearly VND1.2 trillion (US$56.6 million), as 65.7 million shares were transacted.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index dropped 0.17 point, or 0.19 per cent, reaching 88.70 points. The trading value reached VND468.4 billion ($22 million), with just 28.6 million shares changing hands.

The HNX30 Index, comprising the top 30 blue chips, however, gained 0.06 per cent to stand at 177.55 points.
