Inspired restaurateur offers authentic Korean cuisine
A Korean businessman with a love of his native authentic culture and cuisine has followed his passion by establishing a unique restaurant in Nongbone village, Vientiane.
Mr Sung Hyun Park of Bamboo House told Vientiane Times on Monday the reason for opening the family restaurant was because he wanted to offer one hundred percent original Korean cuisine rather than the compromised style he said that was offered elsewhere.
“After opening Bamboo House on March 22 in 2012 we've been encouraging diners to enjoy the authentic dishes right here in Laos. They don't need to go to Korea to get the real taste,” Mr Park said.
Diners will enjoy the unique but tasteful decor of the restaurant with its distinctive Korean theme. This includes experiencing Korean music and movies while you eat.
“Many of the ingredients as well as the decorations in the restaurant come from Korea,” he added.
“I have built up a special relationship with the customers and it's very satisfying when I get positive feedback from them about how much they love our authentic Korean food,” he enthused.
Having lived in Laos as well as Korea has made him appreciate the importance of good food to local culture.
Mr Park explained the house specialities included grilled beef and pork served with fresh vegetables, Kimchi and other fermented vegetables plus accompanying special sauces.
Apart from the special ingredients imported direct from Korea the restaurant features beef from America, Australia and other countries. Dishes on the menu range from 60,000 kip to more than 400,000 kip.
More than a hundred people are lured into the restaurant from 11am to 10pm everyday by its delicious Korean style cuisine and setting.
Mr Park is also planning in the near future to invite famous Korean singers to perform at Bamboo House to add a new dimension in service for customers.
He also said from his experience overseas working for large worldwide companies that he learnt about the need for business to give back to society and to exhibit social responsibility.
Therefore, next year he would like to assist Lao students supporting their education by providing jobs at Bamboo House while they study.
