ANZ supported community project opens 4 schools in 2014
ANZ and Saigon Children’s Charity (SCC) launched two primary schools called Luong Tam 1 and Luong Nghia 1 under Project 3E, a joint community initiative in Long My District, Hau Giang Province.
Last month the first 2-classroom kindergarten named Vinh Vien A was opened to welcome more than 70 young children into the new school year. The fourth school is also underway and will be opened at end of September, fulfilling this year’s target of the project.
ANZ Vietnam chief executive officer Tareq Muhmood said: “Less than a year ago, we visited one of these schools for the first time and decided that the Project needed to happen. Together with financial support, our ANZ staff from Vietnam and other countries have contributed over 3,000 volunteering hours towards this project in its first year. I’m thrilled with the great progress and continued support from our partner – SCC and local government which have helped us go this far.”
Director of SCC, Paul Finnis added: “We are very pleased to see the schools are ready just in time for the new school year. Nearly 500 disadvantaged children in Long My will benefit from these 4 new and well–equipped schools. This wouldn’t have been made possible without the drive, enthusiasm, commitment and support from ANZ and the Project 3E team.”
Apart from building schools and bringing MoneyMinded – an ANZ flagship financial literacy program to the local community to build up their confidence in both educational and financial aspects; Project 3E’s aim is to also provide scholarship to children and young people from families in poverty to help them with a fairer start in lives.
Working in conjunction with Hau Giang Education and Training Department, Project 3E aims at providing quality education to fight poverty, enrich people’s lives and support the employment prospects of more than 4,000 disadvantaged children and young people in Long My district, Hau Giang Province.
