Thai business operators seek Lao partners

A number of Thai business operators are seeking Lao partners to operate businesses under their franchise names in Laos.

Over 15 franchise business operators from Thailand recently met with Lao business operators in Vientiane at the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI).

The Thai franchise owners aim to negotiate with potential Lao partners and explore avenues of possible business cooperation.

The meeting was also a good opportunity for Lao business operators to search for international partners and strengthen their businesses in preparation for regional and international integration, said Mr Khampan Sengthongkham, the secretary of LNCCI.

Ms Nutanong Sertsungnern, a senior official from the Thai Ministry of Commerce's Franchise Business Promotion Department w as also present at the meeting in Vientiane.

“We selected potential franchise businesses such as food and drink vendors, those providing educational materials as well as those offering beauty and spa products to name a few. All our Thai business operators have a full capacity to extend their businesses in Laos effectively,” she said.

Most Lao and Thai people use similar products so the inflow of Thai business operators will be a good opportunity for both sides because many Thai businesses which have already invested in Laos have grown well, especially in the food and drink sectors, as their products are very popular among Lao customers, she added.

In the meantime, beauty and spa services and education businesses have been operating successfully in Laos so it will be a good opportunity for Thai franchise owners to extend their businesses here, Ms Nutanong said.

According to the LNCCI, delegates from the Thai Ministry of Industry, Horkankha University, and numerous franchise companies yesterday met with the LNCCI and some Lao business people to open channels of communication and study regulations in order to do business in Laos.

On such an occasion, all the business operators from Thailand also attended the Lao-Thai trade exhibition, which is being held from July 30 to August 3, to offer Lao business people the chance to join their franchise operations.
