Stocks climb on strong capital inflows

Money continued to pour into the stock market this morning, pushing up stock indices on both exchanges.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange added another 6.39 points to close the morning's session at 626.53 points, while the VN30, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, was also up 0.83 per cent to finish at 660.41 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index climbed 1.78 per cent to end at 84.82 points.

Liquidity was good, with a total of more than 155 million shares worth nearly VND2.54 trillion (US$120.4 million) being traded on the two exchanges.

Hot stocks of real estate and oil and gas companies continued to lead the trading on the two markets.

The top five active codes on the HCM City's bourse were realty companies such as Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp (ITA), FLC Group (FLC), Hoang Anh Gia Lai Co (HAG), Becamex Infrastructure Development Co (IJC) and Hoang Quan Consulting Trading Service Real Estate Co (HQC).

Trading on the Ha Noi exchange was buoyed by oil and gas shares such as PetroVietnam Construction Co (PVX), PetroVietnam Drilling Mud Corp (PVC) and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corp (PVS).

The afternoon session will resume at 1pm.
