VN gets first concrete-filled steel tubular arch bridge

Viet Nam's first concrete-filled steel tubular arch bridge, which has been under construction since 2006, will be inaugurated in Ha Noi in October.

The bridge, named Dong Tru, spans the Duong River and links Dong Anh District's Dong Hoi Commune with Long Bien District's Ngoc Thuy Commune.

Once completed, the 1,140-metre-long bridge will have eight lanes. Its steel arch is 53 metres long, 23.5 metres wide and weighs 280 tonnes.

While 80 per cent of the construction is over, the total investment amounts to more than VND6,600 billion (US$314.2 million), which has been funded by the state budget.

The major contractor of the bridge was Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Number 1 (Cienco 1), while China's Guangxi Road and Bridge Construction Company, Ltd was in charge of building the concrete-filled steel tubular structure. However, the Chinese contractor withdrew from the project in June 2012. The closure of the bridge was made by Cienco 1 on May 6.
