US companies pounce on opportunities in Viet Nam

There have been fresh investments from the US into Viet Nam, said Do Nhat Hoang, Director of the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper said that since early this year, many American enterprises such as Global Venture Inc and Pacific Development LLC, entered Viet Nam to seek investment opportunities.

They also expressed their wish to be a part of the projects on building infrastructure for the country, including constructing a highway in the southern province of An Giang.

In March, US-based Exxon Mobil completed its study and selection to build a US$20 billion gas-electricity complex in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Among five investment projects from the US in Viet Nam since the beginning of 2014, the construction of a complex with a five-star hotel and an entertainment centre in the coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the largest one. Good Choice Inc invested $1.29 billion in this project.

"The results above show that American investors are more confident on the investment and business environment in Viet Nam. Many enterprises consider our country as the world's best emerging market," Hoang said.

In the first two months of this year, with a total registered capital of more than $1.3 billion, the US climbed to the first position from being seventh in the list of countries and territories investing in Viet Nam.
