Oudomxay telcom sector ‘ring up' govt revenue
The Oudomxay provincial telecommunications sector expects to contribute more than 9.23 billion kip (US$1.15 million) to national government revenue this fiscal year.
“The sector contributed over 6.29 billion kip (US$786,250) in the first six months and that was about 68 percent of the total fiscal year plan,” according to a recent Oudomxay provincial Planning and Investment Department report.
“The sector will have to contribute another 2.94 billion kip (US$367,500) in the last six months,” the department reported.
To meet the plan for government revenue, the sector will have to generate sales revenues of more than 55 billion kip (US$6.87 million) this fiscal year.
The department reported the sector had sales of over 33.68 billion kip (US$4.21 million) in the first six months and that represented about 61.23 percent of the fiscal year plan.
The sector will have to turnover around 21.32 billion kip (US$2.66 million) in the last six months.
To meet all the targets, the provincial administration will have to continue to urge the telecom sector to expand service networks to ensure there is more coverage in the province.
The service network expansion will include landline telephone services that will have to cover over 420 villages or about 89 percent of the total villages in the province.
“Currently there are over 40 villages that still don't have access to landline use in the province,” the report noted.
Mobile phone services will have to cover more than 440 villages or around 95 percent of the total villages in the province.
At present the province has 250 base stations after an additional 28 base stations were installed for mobile phone services. Total stations now cover almost 430 villages or about 91.27 percent of the total villages in the province.
So far there are more than 20,000 subscribers for landline telephone services in the province, almost 157,870 subscribers for mobile phones and almost 3,760 subscribers for the 3G network, the department reported.
