Businesswomen's association sets future plans

The Lao Businesswomen's Association (LBA) plans to promote its members to become stronger in the business community and develop closer relations in business networking with other Asean nations and the international community.

The association has now put together another five year plan (2014-2019) after successfully implementing the previous one.

Speaking at a meeting to introduce the new plan, the association's President Ms Chanthao Pathammavong said the attendance of all their members demonstrated the strength of the association and gave a good indication of the value of sharing experiences on successful business operations and also the importance of finding solutions to any unresolved issues within the association.

“In past years we have experienced both convenience and difficulties in operating businesses and we now come together to plan for another five years hence by using lessons learnt from the past,” she said, adding that every member will take part in business connectivity with other Asean businesswomen.

The year 2015 will be a strategic one for many businesspeople in the Asean countries and Lao businesswomen are also urged to be a part of it, competing positively within the Asean Economic Community (AEC).

Vice President of the Lao Women's Union, Ms Khamchanh Phomsengsavanh, Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Sanan Choulamany, and other invited businesspeople were present at the meeting.

During the meeting elections were held for the positions of association president, vice presidents and members of management boards to further carry on promoting the business operations of its members.

As a result Ms Chanthachone Vongsay was voted in as the new President of the Lao Businesswomen's Association, while the new vice presidents were Ms Manola Dalavong and Ms Sirikhoun Phoumlavanh along with another nine members elected to the management boards.

Ms Khamchanh added that she hoped the newly-elected president, vice presidents and members of the management boards would be constantly supporting the membership within the association and closely link it with provincial businesswomen groups.

During the meeting, Labour Medals Class II, III and congratul atory certificates from the government and the association were presented to members who had distinguished themselves with their business activities over the last fi ve years.

Ms Chanthachone, who was elected as the new president, said the next five-year plan also coincides with the implementation of the government's National Socio Economic Development Plan to grow the country out of the list of the world's least developed countries by 2020.

“The association will continue to promote businesswomen to take part in the development of productivity by using new technologies in their operations to ensure their business is more efficient and has better outcomes,” she said.
