Nghe An wants larger economic zone

The authorities in the central province of Nghe An have asked the Government to expand the planned south-eastern economic zone of the province.

The zone involves an investment project of the Investment and Industrial Development Corporation (Becamex IDC), according to Dau Tu (Investment) Newspaper.

Becamex IDC has reportedly invested in the Becamex–Nghe An Industrial Park-Urban and Service Area project. It has a total area of 1,475 hectares, of which 725 hectares would be located within the economic zone and the remainder 750 hectares would be outside the zone.

The economic zone is expected to cover more than 19,586.4 hectares, which is 750 hectares more than the earlier plan.

The Becamex–Nghe An Industrial Park-Urban and Service Area project will have 150,000 residents. The project will be developed in three phases, with the first phase having an investment capital of VND3 trillion (US$142.75 million).

The industrial park and urban area project is expected to attract 150 investors with an expected investment capital of nearly $8billion.

Becamex IDC has been developing industrial parks in southern Binh Duong Province, central Quang Ngai Province, northern Hai Phong City and northern Bac Ninh Province, covering a total area of 5,620 hectares.

The south-eastern economic zone has so far attracted 88 projects, including the VND3.3 trillion Cua Lo deep-water port and the $30 million Hitech BSE Vietnam factory.
