Huaphan tourism sector hopes revenue meets plan

Huaphan provincial tourism sector is aiming to earn additional income of more than 3.71 billion kip in the last three months of this fiscal year, 2013-14, after recording large earnings in the first nine months.

“To meet the plan, the sector has to attract more than 9,800 visitors in the last three months of this fiscal year,” according to the provincial Planning and Investment Department.

The department predicted that the 9,800 tourists will include 5,500 local visitors while the remaining 4,300 people will be foreign tourists, a department official said.

To attract such a large number of visitors, the related sectors will have to work harder in regards to tourism promotion and improving management in the private sector, especially among service operators.

The operators include restaurants, entertainments, hotels, guesthouses, vehicle services and tour operators, to ensure that they are operating their businesses according to the provincial tourism promotion regulations.

So far the province has 139 designated tourism sites, including 49 natural tourism sites, 32 cultural sites and 58 historical sites. It also has seven hotels, 52 guesthouses, 88 restaurants and 56 entertainment venues.

In the first nine months, the tourism sector recorded earnings of more than 10.38 billion kip, which was about 74 percent of the fiscal year plan.

The province attracted more than 25,900 tourists in the first nine months, which was about 73 percent of the plan.

The 25,910 tourists included more than 11,400 local visitors, which was about 67 percent of the plan, while the remaining 14,500 people were foreign visitors.

The department reported that Huaphan expects socio-economic development in this fiscal year will be about 12.9 percent and that provincial gross domestic product (PGDP) will be worth more than 1.74 trillion.

Meanwhile income per capita is set to be about 5.93 million kip per person per year.

The economic expansion will include the growth of the agricultural sector of about 12.07 percent, while the industrial sector will expand by about 14.07 percent and the service sector (that includes tourism services) by about 12.06 percent.

T he department also reported that Huaphan expects next fiscal year's social economic development to have an average growth rate of at least 12.5 percent. The province's gross domestic product (PGDP) will possibly be worth more than 2 trillion kip, with the income per capita set to be about 6.6 million kip per person per year.

The agricultural sector will cover 52.8 percent of PGDP growth, with the service sector (include tourism operations) covering 25.6 percent and the industrial sector covering 21.6 percent.
