Toukta sports shop popular during World Cup period

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil continues to captivate football fans in Laos as the tournament progresses towards the Round of 16 and the big match-ups everyone has been waiting for.

With many fans wanting to show their support for their favourite nations by donning their team colours, business is good for the Toukta sports shop in Vientiane.

Located in Phonsavanh-Neua village, Sisattanak district, Vientiane, Toukta is now offering a new option for young people looking for sportswear and uniforms, stocking all the in vogue jerseys and other accessories.

Toukta sells a range of sporting equipment, including shirts, shorts, football jerseys and everything else sports related. Their prices are very competitive, with most things in the shop ranging from 15,000 to 70,000 kip.

The owner of the shop, Mr Bounlieb Inthaphout, explained that the operation has 10 staff, the majority of whom are relatives from Vientiane. Most of her stock is imported from either Thailand or China.

The afternoons and evenings are normally the busiest in terms of sales, with the majority of customers being young people.

Toukta is conveniently located near a number of schools and so it stocks a range of s to suit everyone from ten years old up to young adults.

Mr Bounlieb said he thinks the shop is popular because of its prominent location and its large range of sportswear and equipment.

“Currently around 95 percent of my customers are Lao while foreigners make up the other five percent,” he explained. In the future the shop has plans to expand to other provinces to supply the growing demand.

Mr Bounlieb said during the World Cup period sales have been especially good, with the most popular jerseys being Germany, Brazil and Argentina.

The Toukta sports shop is open every day from 7.00am to 7.00pm.
