LDB - Nam Papa turn tap on easy water payments

Lao Development Bank (LDB) has joined with Vientiane water supply operator, Nam Papa Nakhone Luang, to launch a new service that allows customers to pay their water bills via the bank.

LDB and Nam Papa Nakhone Luang signed a service cooperation agreement on Wednesday in Vientiane.

“People can now pay their water bills via mobile banking, at ATM boxes and at all service units and offices of the LDB nationwide,” an official of the LDB said at the signing ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by LDB General Managing Director, Mr Boualiane Phommavongsa, and Nam Papa Nakhone Luang General Manager, Mr Khampheuy Vongsakhamphoui.

The LDB Deputy Managing Director, Mr Khamsing Sengkeomahavong, said the bank recently joined forces with the Eelectricite du Laos to unveil a new service which permits customers to pay their electricity bills via the bank's service network, making life more convenient for customers of the bank.

Customers also enjoy many features and services, including Visa cards, easy access to ATMs and cashp oints, mobile banking, online statements, currency exchange, money transfer, water utility payments, phone card refills and lottery purchases to name a few.

“We will introduce new products this year including Master Card and an ATM pool system allowing customers of each bank to use the other's machines. We will implement the ATM pool system with the Banque pour le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public, Lao Viet Bank and Agricultural Promotion Bank,” Mr Khamsing said.

LDB hopes that by adding convenient facilities it will help water customers to pay on time. It will also eliminate the complaint from those who live far from the water company's service offices that it's very difficult to actually make payment and requires time and effort on the part of the bill payer. Providing newfound convenience for customers also helps staff keep accounts up-to-date.

LDB has been operating in Laos for more than ten years after being formed following the amalgamation of the Lane Xang and Lao Mai banks back in 2003.

It is headquartered in Chanthabouly district, Vientiane and nationwide the bank now has 18 branches along with 67 service units, 21 exchange units and more than 170 ATM machines that provide services for customers.

It has a policy for its staff to uphold the values of honesty, stability, transparency, working for development and to always provide top quality services for customers, whether large or small. It has always made customer service a priority and the central focus of its future development.

It has worked to constantly improve its operating systems and employ new technologies to provide convenience for customers as well as facilitate the work of its staff. In less than one year, the bank has man aged to connect all of its branches and service units via the Core Banking (T24) System, vastly improving communication, coordination and service standards.
