Lao Development Bank joins EDL to spark easy electricity payments

Lao Development Bank (LDB) recently joined forces with EDL to unveil a new service which allows people to pay their electricity bills via their ATM cards, making life more convenient for customers of the bank.

Speaking at the Electricite d u Laos (EDL ) meeting last weekend, Deputy Director General of LDB Mr Sengphet Manivong said that Lao Development Bank has been operating in Laos for more than ten years after being formed following the amalgamation of the Lane Xang and Lao Mai banks back in 2003.

Lao Development Bank currently has its headquarters located at Building No 013, Souphanouvong Road, Sihom village in Chanthabouly district, Vientiane. Meanwhile, nationwide there are now 20 LBD branches along with 67 service units, 21 exchange units and 170 ATM machines that provide services for customers.

The bank has a policy for its staff to uphold the values of honesty, stability, transparency, working for development and always provide top quality services for customers, whether large or small.

IN its more than 10 years of operation, Lao Development Bank has always made customer service a priority and the central focus of its future development.

LDB has worked to constantly improve its operating systems and employ new technologies to provide convenience for customers as well as facilitate the work of its staff, Mr Sengphet said.

In less than one year, the bank has managed to connect all its branches and service units via the Core Banking (T24) System, vastly improving communication, coordination and service standards.

Customers of the bank enjoy many features and services, including easy access to ATMs and cash-points, mobile banking, online statements, currency exchange, money transfer, water utility payments, phone card refills and lottery purchases to name a few.

Now LDB have added the payment of electricity bills to the suite of services that they offer. “This year, we plan to develop some new products for our company, including introducing the internationally accepted Master Card and connecting with the ATM Pool of the other Lao Banks,” Mr Sengphet said.

According to the Deputy Managing Director of Electricite du Laos, Mr Duangsy Pharanhok said the amount of outstanding electricity bills is growing every month, reaching more than 400 billion kip recently. It is hoped that adding this convenient facility will help customers to pay on time.

It will also eliminate the often heard complaint that for those who live far from an EDL office it is very difficult to actually make payment and requires time and effort on the part of the bill payer, he added, providing newfound convenience for both EDL customers and also the staff working to keep its accounts up-to-date.
