Market close lower in morning trading

After a five-day-long holiday, shares closed lower this morning on both the national stocks exchanges.

 

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 5.77 points, or 1 per cent, to end at 572.23 points.

The trading volume and value remained low, with 28.5 million shares changing hands, worth VND584.8 billion, or US$27.8 million.

Most of the large-cap stocks tumbled, with the VN30-Index, which tracks the southern bourse's largest stocks by capitalisation and liquidity, losing 1.45 per cent to end at 622.95 points.

Only the Kinh Do Corporation (KDC) managed to advance this morning, while five stocks closed at their reference prices.

On the Hà Noi Exchange, the stocks were in the red with the HNX-Index tumbling 1.49 per cent to land at 78.69 points.

The HNXFF-Index, comprising stocks with a minimum free float rate of 5 per cent, dropped 1.33 per cent to close at 79.72 points.

Tracking the top stocks, the HNX30-Index closed 1.95 per cent lower at 157.34 points.

With only 17.2 million shares being traded, the trading value was a modest VND176.6 billion, or $8.4 million.
