Many Vietnamese companies stop importing Chinese products
A number of Vietnamese companies specialising in the importation of Chinese products have halted importation of products from the country in the wake of tensions over the East Sea.
Vu Xuan Nam 3D Ornamental Slab Ltd. Co. in Hanoi has imported Chinese furniture for two years, but has since began seeking new sources for their products, including South Korea.
The company's director said that Chinese furniture is very cheap, but customers increasingly prioritise quality goods.
A representative from Tin Viet Ltd. Co., also based in Hanoi, said that the sales of enameled tiles imported from China has slowed down following Vietnamese opposition to illegal Chinese illegal actions. The company has also considered changing to other areas of business.
Vu Thi Thu, Director of Q.T Fashion JS Company, in Hanoi’s Ha Dong District, said that her firm has stopped importing Chinese clothes in the past three days, sourcing their products instead from Thailand.
The director of Sen Vang Tourism and Trade Company, Thuy Hien, said that the number of Vietnamese people who have cancelled tours to China has been on the increase in recent days.
Before the oil rig incident in the East Sea, the company received large numbers of Vietnamese who booked tours to China, but the numbers has dropped by 20-30%.
Yet another Hanoi-based company, Viettimes Travel, has reported a similar drop off in Chinese tours sold, with between only 3-5 people inquiring about tours to China daily. They said that previously the number averaged between 10 and 20. Around 10% of customers have cancelled previously booked tours to China.
