Salaries of Vietnam’s top execs may surprise you

Salary and bonuses provided to companies’ top brass has always been a fixture of attention from the public.

Recently it was reported by laodong.com.vn that chairman of Hoang Anh Gia Lai JSC Doan Nguyen Duc received $200,000 in 2013 in total pay, one of the highest reported in the country.

This amount significantly exceeded his 2012 earnings of $166,000.

Total salaries and bonuses to other top executives in the company, including Supervisory Board members, amounted to approximately VND25 billion ($1.2 million) last year, according to the company’s 2013 annual report.

Leading property developer Vingroup recently made public its remunerations to top leaders. Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong made more than $43,000 last year.

In the recent past, leading coffee firm Vinacafe Bien Hoa JSC’s newly released GSM statement showed company chairman Pham Quang Vu would be paid around $85,700 this year. He earned $65,700 last year.

In 2012, Vu’s total earnings amounted to nearly $119,000, including $47,500 in allowance and bonuses. As a shareholder he made an additional $27,000 from dividends.

Chairwoman and CEO of leading jewel maker Phu Nhuan JSC Cao Thi Ngoc Dung earned $87,500 last year; but also as CEO she got a 2.5 month bonus totalling $15,500.

These numbers may seem surprisingly low, but it is widely known that firm leaders’ real income is not from salary but rather their various side earnings from either primary or secondary busines.
