More foreigners visit Phu Quoc

Nearly 57,100 international tourists travelled to Phu Quoc island in Kien Giang Province in the first quarter of this year, up 33 per cent against the same time last year.

This was revealed by statistics from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Despite a significant increase in the number of foreign travellers to the island, provincial hospitality saw a year-on-year drop of 13 per cent in the total number of visitors, which reached over 900,000, because of unexciting tourism products provided at high prices and poor facilities.

Last year, the province received more than 5.23 million tourists, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1 per cent. Phu Quoc District attracted nearly 622,500 visitors, up 25.2 per cent from 2012, including nearly 122,800 foreign arrivals.
