Long An receives US patents

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted patents to two special products of the southern Long An Province.

Director of the provincial Department of Science and Information Technology Mai Van Nhieu said the products are the Nang Thom Cho Dao rice, one of Viet Nam's most famous traditional rice varieties, and the Chau Thanh – Long An dragon fruit.

The patents will be effective for ten years.

The Nang Thom Cho Dao rice is difficult to grow and can be grown only in the My Le Commune in the Can Duoc District.

The dragon fruit is grown on nearly 2,200ha in the Chau Thanh District, which supplies more than 30,000 tonnes of the fruit per year. The province follows VietGap and GlobalGap standards in an effort to stabilise cultivation and ensure export-quality produce.
