LSX advises investors to understand corporate governance
Public and private companies seeking to be listed on the Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) will have to understand more about corporate governance so they can generate revenue effectively, a senior LSX official advised.
The suggestion was made to company representatives and officers of financial institutions by the Secretary General of the LSX Commission Office, Ms Vathana Dalaloy, at a seminar on Saturday.
Ms Vathana said Lao people still thought of the LSX as a new phenomenon despite it being introduced more than three years ago.
“The Lao government has set several plans and targets before the arrival of the Asean Economic Community, therefore the requirements of public understanding on securities and exchange is critically fundamental,” Ms Vathana said.
She said the seminar was a great opportunity for companies that are preparing to be listed on the LSX to learn more about management and especially about corporate governance.
The seminar was held in conjunction with Investment Gateway 2014, which was a golden opportunity for many leading companies to display their products at the LSX building in Vientiane.
Many of these companies are looking to be registered on the LSX some time this year, and the event allowed them to raise their company profiles, publicise their strengths and showcase their products.
Event participants also joined fun quizzes about holding shares in companies listed on the LSX.
Several hundred students, businesspeople and other interested participants attended the combined event.
Several experienced LSX gave suggestions on what kind of shares investors should buy or sell and the values of the shares currently on the exchange.
Chairman and CEO of the LSX Associate Professor Dethphouvang Molarat was among the guests at the opening ceremony.
Experienced speaker Mr Rapee Sucharitakul, who is also Governor and Member of the Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility Committee at the Stock Exchange of Thailand, delivered a lecture on corporate governance.
