BCEL launches new products

Banque Pour Le Commerce Exterieur Lao (BCEL) Public is launching various new products to benefit its customers and support the economic policy of the government by improving, developing, modernising and expanding its services.

“We expect to move towards modernisation and international standards from 2013 to 2020,” the BCEL General Managing Director, Mr Vanhkham Voravong, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The occasion was also the official launch of its new products BCEL One V.2, Cash Deposit Machine (CDM) and B-pay, which will greatly improve convenience for customers.

“To meet that target we have to develop our service products as this is the requirement of customers, including self-service products,” Mr Vanhkham said.

BCEL One V.2 is the updated version of BCEL One V.1 that was launched in June last year and was very popular with the customers. “We can see that more than 20,000 application forms were downloaded by customers,” he said.

With BCEL One V.2 use, the customers can pay their electricity, water supply, telephone, internet and money transfer bills via their mobile phones, tablets and computers. They can also transfer money into different currencies, such as from Lao kip to US dollars or to Thai baht.

The customers can also lock their credit cards by their own smart phones or tablets for their safety; and they can pay for the goods with the BCEL One V.2 service use.

Normally ATM boxes are used only to withdraw money. However with the CDM box service use, the customers can deposit the money to their accounts by themselves every time. “They do not have to go to the bank to meet the tellers,” he said.

However the bank has only one CDM at the bank's headquarters now and it plans to expand such services nationwide soon.

The B-pay service means the customers can pay their electricity and water supply bills via the ATMs. In the past, customers could pay only the electricity but now they can pay their water bills as well.

BCEL will continue to further develop services to ensure that customers can pay for other bills with the use of the B-pay service in the future .

BCEL's activities continue to grow gradually and strengthen in various fields including its accumulated assets, deposits, loans and number of clients. Internally, there are 18 branches, 20 service units and 10 foreign exchange service offices. BCEL has over 100 correspondent banks world-wide.

It was established at the end of the year 1975, when Laos achieved liberation and has undertaken its activities since 1976.
