Wind farm contributes power to grid

The first ten turbines of a wind farm in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Bac Lieu have generated 20,000 MW for the national grid so far.

According to the plant's management board, the ten turbines of the first phase of the project are operating at 30 to 35 per cent of their designed capacity.

The installation of an additional 52 turbines in the project's second phase at a total investment of over VND 4.19 trillion (US$197 million) is being expedited.

These facilities are expected to be made operational by the end of 2015. The wind farm, covering 500 hectares in the coastal Vinh Trach Dong Commune in Bac Lieu city, has been funded with over VND5.2 trillion ($244.4 million) by the Cong Ly Construction-Trading-Tourism company.

Once complete, the farm is expected to contribute 320 million kilo watts per hour to the national grid every year.
