City shares make slight recovery
After Monday's loss, the VN-Index edged up yesterday as selling pressure eased and investor confidence improved.
The benchmark index on the southern bourse advanced 0.76 per cent to close the day at 574.56 points despite fluctuations in the morning trading session.
More than 160.28 million shares changed hands, and the total trading value reached VND2.463 trillion (US$117.2 million) on the bourse.
Penny and midcaps were the most active stocks yesterday, while blue chips also posted gains.
The VN30-Index, tracking the southern bourse's top 30 shares by capitalisation and liquidity, rose by 1.06 per cent to close at 654.6 points.
Gainers dominated with 22 codes adding value and only three codes declining.
Becamex IJC (IJC) hit its ceiling price of VND12,700 ($0.6), with a gain of VND800 ($0.038) per share. PetroVietnam Drilling (PVD) also posted a strong gain of VND3,000 ($0.14) per share to reach VND76,500 ($3.6).
Stocks of the real estate sector were active yesterday. The property developer Vingroup (VIC) earned VND1,500 ($0.07) per share to close at VND78,000 ($3.7).
Among blue chips, only Eximbank (EIB), Hoa Sen Group (HSG) and Masan Group (MSN) lost value yesterday.
Overall, on the southern bourse, 172 codes increased, while 65 codes fell.
More than 11.8 million shares of Tan Tao Group (ITA) changed hands yesterday and led the bourse in liquidity.
On the northern bourse, the HNX-Index rose for the fifth straight day and climbed 1.76 per cent to reach 81.04 points.
The HNXFF-Index, composed of stocks with a minimum free-float rate of 5 per cent, earned 1.88 per cent to end at 79.92 points.
Tracking the 30 top shares, the HNX30-Index ended at 3.66 per cent, with a rise of 2.31 per cent.
The bourse's liquidity remained high as more than 94.4 million shares, with a total value just short of VND1 trillion ($47.6 million), were traded.
After the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, liquidity on both bourses has remained high with a strong cash flow.
The total value over several trading days exceeded VND3 trillion ($142.8 million).
