BKL adds new colour to Vientiane

Located in Vangthong Night Market Plaza in Thongkhankham village, Chanthabouly district, Vientiane, BKL restaurant is now offering a new option for children and young people looking for a burger joint.

The restaurant is already packed full of young people from all walks of life who want to experience western food. It is a new landmark in the service sector, which has seen rapid growth over the past years.

BKL restaurant officially opened its doors on December, 22, 2013, after friends invested funds of more than 2.4 billion kip (10 million Baht).

BKL sell a range of tasty meals, including chicken fillet burgers, cheese burgers, chicken drumsticks, chicken wings, French fries and other take away delights. Their prices are very competitive, with everything on the menu ranging from 6,000 to 25,000 kip.

Manager of the restaurant, Ms Maliny Soukkhaphon, explained that there are 22 staff, the majority of whom come from Vientiane. They generally receive around one month's training before they start.

“The afternoons and evenings are normally the busiest, with the majority of customers being young people, with BKL conveniently located near a number of schools. The children range from five years old up to young adults,” Ms Maliny said

Inside the restaurant there are 30 tables. In the future, the restaurant has plans to expand to other provinces. They are already finalising preparations to open another restaurant in the Dongdok area, where they expect to welcome many customers.

They also serve a number of soft drinks and other beverages as well as soft serve ice cream. However, the restaurant is not serving alcohol as this would make the shop look dirty and most of its customers are young people under the legal drinking age.
