Strong but sleek: the all new Nissan Juke

Tan Chong Motor (Lao) Co., Ltd (TCML), a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd (TCMH) and distributor of Nissan vehicles officially opened its 3S branch in Vientiane on Friday.

In conjunction with the official opening, TCML unveiled the all new Nissan Juke – a distinctive combination of SUV toughness and sporting style in a compact sports cross over. With muscular lines and sensual shapes, Juke exudes sportiness.

The opening of Tan Chong Motor Showroom signifies its arrival in Laos. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Nam Vinhaket, Vientiane Mayor Mr Soukanh Mahalath as well as Malaysian Ambassador to Laos Dato' Than Tai Hing.

Dato' Dr Ang Bon Beng, Senior Regional Director of Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd in Indochina outlined the company's plans in Laos. “Our plan includes expanding our dealership network to have better coverage as well as introducing new models.”

“Laos presents promising market growth hence the expectation of a gradual and steady rise in sales over the next five years. The introduction of the Nissan Juke symbolises the company's optimism in the local automotive industry.”

Also present at the opening was Stephanus Ardianto, General Manager, Nissan Motor Ltd. Asia & Oceania. “Since 2010, Nissan and Tan Chong have expanded their scope – not only in Malaysia, but also in the Indochina markets, such as Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, as well as Myanmar.”

“The Nissan Juke now enjoys tremendous success in Europe. We strongly believe that the Juke will become a key model for Nissan in the Indochina market after capturing the hearts of local customers” said Mr. Ardianto.

The Official Nissan Juke is a new compact sports crossover which cannot be categorised within the existing vehicle segment category. Its concept of ‘Born Original' pursues originality and uniqueness and this i s coupled with the toughness of an SUV and the agility of a compact car. It is the third member of Nissan's crossover family, reinforcing the Nissan position as a pioneer of this increasingly popular vehicle configuration.

The stability of the passenger compartment in the front impact zone also contributes to Nissan Juke's high safety rating as did its performance in child pedestrian protection. Standard safety equipment on all models includes ESP stability control and six airbags.

Two versions of Nissan Juke are available, those being a1.6Xtronic CVT Transmission and 1.6 6-speed manual Turbo.

Fuel efficiency is another positive, at an economical 15.87 kilometres per litre for the automatic and 14.49 for the manual based on the UK regulated fuel economy cycle, which comprises highway and city driving patterns. Of course, actual fuel consumption will vary based on driving conditions.

All variants come standard with a three year warranty or 100,000km (whichever comes first), leather seats, six airbags and other safety features.

“The Nissan Juke has been introduced in more than 120 countries, an instant 5-star hit with 66,300 firm orders within the first five months after its launch in Europe. It is fitting and timely for TCM Laos to launch the Nissan Juke,” Dato' Dr Ang said.

Retail prices for the Nissan Juke in Laos are around US$45,500 for the automatic and US$47,500 for the manual.
