Local gold price goes up

The price of gold jewellery rose to 5.7 million kip per baht weight (15.244g) yesterday at Vientiane's Talatsao Mall.

A gold trader at Talatsao Market said the price of gold was fluctuating this month according to prices on the world market.

“Every day, the price of gold is unpredictable but it doesn't mean it is largely changed,” she said.

In Thailand, the purchase price per baht weight was at 18,480.04 baht (4.6 million kip) yesterday and the sale price was about 19,250 baht (4.7 million kip), according to the Gold Traders Association of Thailand.

Buyers purchasing with a view to stockpiling long-term will likely seize the opportunity to buy gold jewellery at a cheaper price.

Almost every weekend, several gold stores at Talatsao Mall in Vientiane are packed with shoppers.
