Siam Kubota eyes more Lao sales

Thai-based agricultural machinery manufacturer and distributor Siam Kubota Corp has pledged to approach a 20 percent increase in sales on the Lao market over the next year.

Siam Kubota Export Sales Manager, Mr Punna Wongtanasirikul, said the company had to compete with many other businesses selling agricultural machinery in Laos, particularly from China and other Thai companies.

He said his company set itself apart from competitors by offering farmers knowledge and skills on how to increase their per hectare rice yields.

Mr Punna said while floods in Thailand last year had affected the company's production abilities, it still expected to earn 1 billion baht for the year.

“This year, we seem to be satisfied with an increased income of around 1,500 million baht,” he said.

“Our expectation is to reach 2,000 million baht over the next two years.”

Mr Punna said his company was working alongside the Lao government on a scheme to increase rice yields as well as on an environmental awareness campaign.

Siam Kubota organised a lucky draw in Vientiane on Saturday to mark the company's 35th anniversary, offering 700 million kip to reward its loyal customers.

“The demand for agricultural machinery in our neighbouring countries, including Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia, is still considerably high because the majority of residents are farmers,” Mr Punna said.

Agricultural machinery will be a key element in boosting farm production in time for the formation of the Asean Economic Community in 2015.
