Nakhonesup Plaza to offer more shopping options

Nakhonesup shopping Plaza claims it will become one of the most popular shopping centres in Vientiane when it opens in December this year.

If you have been driving around in Vientiane recently you will no doubt have seen the banner advertisements for the shopping plaza offering space for sale and rent with buying prices starting at 5 million kip per square metre and rentals at 39,000 kip per square metre per month.

Nakhonesup shopping Plaza is a joint-venture development between local investor Nakhonesup group and a Chinese investor, Lao-Huachen Development and Investment Company.

Director of the Chinese investor, Mr Zeng Yao Hua, said that the shopping centre is now generating considerable interest from both domestic and foreign clients booking space in the mall.

“Every day so far, we have had groups of clients coming to see us and booking space. More than half of the space has already been taken and we are still getting many more serious enquiries,” he said.

“The reason our shopping mall is getting so much interest is because it has the best location, right in the centre of the city. Most investors acknowledge the importance of this.”

Their clients are domestic traders as well as others from Asian countries such as Thailand, China, Singapore and Cambodia.

The cost of space varies according to its location. “Most bookings have come from buyers rather than renters as it is a better option in the long term,” he said. Ownership is for a 50 year period.

The Plaza is located at Ban Phonsa-att, Chanthabouly district, a few minute's walk from Patuxay Monument, which is the centre of Vientiane.

“It is a very central location, and this is the reason that we have so much interest from clients,” Mr Zeng said.

“I believe that our shopping mall will become one of the most popular very soon after we open.”

“We will provide different options for shoppers with high class, brand-name products and a wide variety of different items.”

The construction of the plaza, which started in November last year, has been going well and the project is expected to be finished on time.

“The building work is done and we are now working on the finishing and decoration. Overall, it's about 85 percent complete,” Mr Zeng said.

All necessary equipment from overseas has already been imported and is ready for installation such as the elevators, lifts and air-conditioners.

“All the work will be completed in October, when we will be ready to hand over the spaces to our clients and, at the end of this year, the shopping mall will be officially opened to the public,” Mr Zeng said.

“It is not just the location that sets us apart. Our team has experience and has successfully managed shopping centres in China for more than ten years. We can adapt some of the lessons we have learnt and the skill and experience of our staff to ensure our smooth and efficient management here.

“We are not just selling space to our clients then leaving them to their own devices. As with our operation in China we will always try to help our clients to attract more shoppers.

“For example, we are planning to hold customer service training for their staff in order for them to provide the best service so that they will attract more customers.

“More activities and promotions are planned to promote the shopping mall.”

The mall has five stories with the first floor devoted to international boutique goods; the second floor will be for clothing; the third for IT, electronic and digital products; the fourth is for one or more large department stores and the fifth floor will be a food centre and children's playground.

It also has underground parking. “We will have enough space for parking,” Mr Zeng said.

The shopping mall consists of over 300 rooms excluding the fourth floor. The shopping mall, is costing US$25 million in its first phase.

“This will be a great new place for Vientiane people to enjoy, be entertained and relax,” the director said.

“The mall is expected to open from morning until late so that office workers can have the chance to shop after work.

“Many of the goods will be from well known international brands, saving the need for Lao people to leave the country for their shopping.”

Although many clients have already booked space, the Nakhonesup shopping Plaza officially opened for booking late last month. The shopping mall is expected to create about 2000 jobs for local people.
