Thai and Cambodian trade fair on the road
In a joint effort to promote trade ties, government officials in Cambodia and Thailand have organised the first “Caravan Fair” in which producers within the neighbouring countries will showcase their products to one another.
The Cambodia-Thailand Caravan Fair 2013, a travelling event starting on June 25 and ending on July 5, is the first such set-up between the two countries and is an initiative from the Joint Border Committee of Cambodia and Thailand.Jiranan Wongmongkol, Director of the Foreign Trade Promotion office at the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, said products including clothes, cosmetics, food and home appliances would be promoted.
“During the exhibition, the price of goods are cheaper,” she said, adding that the caravan fair would travel to Pursat from June 29 to July 1, and Battambang from July 3 to July 5.
Kep Vutha, Chief of the Trade Exhibition Office at the Trade Promotion Department, said that while the fair was a joint initiative, the majority of the work was done on the Thai side, including numbers of booths and participating companies.
“I think there won’t be many Cambodia producers at the fair for this year because it came in a short time,” he said, adding that “next year; I hope more Cambodians will participate in the fair”.
