India seeks to enhance trade links

An Indian business delegation visiting Cambodia hopes to boost bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism and transport, officials said yesterday.

Meeting with key Cambodian officials, Director General of the Indian Chamber of Commerce said the Kingdom presented many opportunities for India.

“There is great demand for agricultural products in the Northeast of India and it is cost-effective buying from Cambodia,” he said.

Paban Singh Ghatowar in the Ministry of Development of the North East Region said that there was also potential to increase tourism numbers to Cambodia.

“When I go back home, we will discuss with airlines in India for them to fly to Cambodia either from New Delhi or Kolkata ,” he said.

Debasish Pattnaik, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, said in 2012 the total trade volume between Cambodia and India was $95 million, while he anticipated trade to be more than $100 million for 2013.
