MUJI plans green dye factory for Cambodia

Japanese retail company MUJI announced the development of an eco-friendly natural dyeing plant in Cambodia, a press release on Sunday said.

The plan is part of the Business Call to Action, a global initiative supported by several international organisations and hosted by the UN Development Programme that aims to support the private sector’s efforts to fight poverty through its core business.

MUJI “formed its commitment around two projects including the development of a 2,000 square metre eco-friendly dyeing and sewing towel plant in Cambodia to employ over 300 local people by 2015,” the release said.

The company also plans to plant indigo around the plant, to generate 50 new jobs and a new product line of natural indigo dye products in the future, the release said.

MUJI has nearly 600 stores across Asia, Europe and North America.
