Shares fail to retain gains in southern city

Shares reversed yesterday's gains to retreat in HCM City this April 3 morning.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 0.43 per cent, reaching 507.23 points as losers overwhelmed gainers by 90-54.

Trading value dropped 25.7 per cent compared to yesterday morning's level, totalling VND672.2 billion (US$32 million) with nearly 35.9 million shares changing hands.

Tracking the performance of the 30 largest shares in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, the VN30-Index slid 0.2 per cent to 572.27 points as only four stocks among these blue chips managed to increase.

Meanwhile, on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index rose 0.03 per cent to 61.11 points.

Market value fell slightly compared to yesterday morning, standing at VND214.35 billion ($10.2 million) on a volume of some 27.7 million shares.

The HNX30-Index, composed of the northern bourse's leading shares, also added 0.3 per cent to 116.98 points.
