Myanmar's border trade hits $2.7 bln in 10 months

Myanmar's border trade hit 2.786 billion U.S. dollars in the first ten months (April-January) of the fiscal year 2012-13, up 7 percent or over 180 million dollars from the previous same period, local media reported Monday.

Of the total, the export amounted to 1.678 billion dollars while the import represented 1.108 billion dollars, said the Weekly Eleven News.

Border trade was done through 13 border points, among which Muse topped the volume.

Myanmar's border trade reached 3.367 billion U.S. dollars in the fiscal year 2011-12.

Meanwhile, Myanmar authorities are taking action against illegal trade by forming mobile teams organized by the Ministry of Commerce to promote border trade while clamping down on black- market trade.
