800,000 tonnes of coal exported in January

The National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) estimated that Viet Nam has earned nearly US$50 million from exporting 800,000 tonnes of coal in the first moth this year, an increase of 17.1 per cent in volume but down 22.9 per cent in value from the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the amount of ore and minerals that the country imported in January has been estimated at 280,000 tonnes, worth US$32 million.

China is still the biggest importer of Vietnamese coal, followed by the Republic of Korea and Japan.

According to Vinacomin, the world price of coal is still on a downtrend as supply surpasses demand.
