Stocks rise strongly after world market boost

Viet Nam's stock markets rose strongly this September 14 morning, driven by a robust increase of the world stock indices. This follows the US Federal Reserve's decision to launch an aggressive stimulus programme.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index gained another 1.86 per cent to 398.63 points at a total trading value of VND410.7 billion (US$19.6 million).

Many blue chips soared to the ceiling price, including insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vietinbank (CTG), financial conglomerate Ocean Group (OGC) and PetroVietnam Finance (PVF), while others also posted strong gains.

The VN30 tracking the top 30 shares by market capitalisation and liquidity was also up 1.72 per cent to stand at 463.97 points.

More than 2.2 million shares were traded in the Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp (ITA) this morning. They closed 4 per cent higher at VND5,200 a share, ending a four day decline.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also jumped 1.58 per cent to end this morning's session at 59.03 points with a total turnover of VND167.4 billion ($8 million).

Market condition was positive with 144 codes rising, 41 declining and 207 closing unchanged.

The HNX30 also increased 2.43 per cent to 111.33 points.

Shares in the security companies Kim Long and VNDirect were the most active with total trades of more than 2.2 million shares traded on each code. KLS rose 3.5 per cent to VND8,800 a share while VND edged up 4.2 per cent to VND10,000 each
