Cassava exports enter ‘billion dollar club'

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development says cassava exports will cross the US$1 billion by the end of September, marking a year-on-year increase of $250 million.

It will also mark cassava's entry to the billion dollar turnover group in agricultural products alongside rice, coffee and cashew.

The General Department of Customs says that since June, Viet Nam has exported an average of 244,000 tonnes of cassava every month with revenues exceeding $83 million.

In eight months, Viet Nam exported more than 3.2 million tonnes of cassava and cassava products for an export turnover of $974.5 million, an increase of 67.5 per cent in volume and nearly 43 per cent in value.
