VN-Index makes adjustment

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index made correction on August 7 after a sharp gain the previous day as pessimism grew, causing both buy-side and sell-side to be cautious.

The gauge of 303 companies and six mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dropped 0.16 percent, or 0.66 points, to close at 422.5 points.

Among the index members, 77 advanced, 158 retreated, while 74 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 25 percent in volume, and by 24 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 33.15 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND548.27 billion.

Tay Bac Minerals Investment Joint Stock Company (KTB) was the most active share in volume with 2.07 million shares changing hands.

Vietnam Electricity Construction Joint Stock Corporation (VNE) was the runner-up with 1.64 million shares.

Sacom Development & Investment Corporation (SAM) dropped to third rank with 1.43 million shares traded.

Binh Chanh Construction Investment Shareholding Company (CSM) and Do Thanh Technology Corporation (DTT) both gave up 4.88 percent to close at VND19,500, and VND7,800 respectively.

Saigon Telecommunication & Technologies Corporation (SGT) cut 4.87 percent to close at VND25,400.

Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (PDN) lost 4.8 percent to close at VND23,800.

Hoang Huy Investment Services Joint Stock Company (HHS) recovered 4.85 percent to close at VND38,900.

Nui Nho Stone Corporation (NNC) rallied 4.78 percent to close at VND35,100.

Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) expanded 4.76 percent to close at VND4,400.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – erased 0.9 points, or 0.18 percent, to end at 502.07. Among its 30 members, 5 stocks rallied, 20 weakened, and 5 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north slumped 1.23 percent, or 0.87 points, to close at 69.58 points with 69 winners, 145 losers, and 65 stocks treading water. Around 34.85 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND540 billion.

HNX 30 Index - the price index of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization – tumbled 1.94 percent, or 2.62 points, to finish at 132.34 points.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares surged 0.24 percent, or 0.09 points, to close at 37.42 points. A total of 433,626 shares changed hands at VND2.91 billion.
