VN-Index nosedives fourth straight day

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index declined the fourth trading session on June 26 as investors continued to sell off shares, causing petrol, real estate, construction, and building material shares to collapse in tandem.

The measure of 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange plummeted 1.16 percent, or 4.93 points, to close at 419.19 points.

On the index, 32 stocks rose, 227 fell, while 49 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse dropped by 19.5 percent in volume, and nearly 28 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 50.51 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND744.86 billion.

Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) was the most active share in volume for a second day with 2.08 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) followed with 2.03 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) remained at third rank with 1.86 million shares traded.

International Development & Investment Corporation (IDI) plunged 14 percent to close at VND8,600.

Taicera Enterprise Company (TCR) dived 12.9 percent to close at VND5,400.

South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) forfeited 5.88 percent to close at VND1,600.

Ben Tre Forestry & Aqua Product Import Export Joint Stock Company (FBT) regained 5 percent to close at VND12,600.

Construction & Materials Trading Joint Stock Company (CNT) reclaimed 4.6 percent to close at VND9,100.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) recovered 4.55 percent to close at VND16,100.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – cut 4.36 points, or 0.88 percent, to end at 493.73. Among its 30 members, 3 stocks enhanced, 23 weakened, and 4 remained flat.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north slashed 0.96 percent, or 0.69 points, to close at 71.11 points with 50 winners, 203 losers, and 44 stocks treading water. Around 47.83 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND445.82 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares slid 0.11 percent, or 0.04 points, to close at 36.41 points. A total of 283,500 shares changed hands at VND1.97 billion
