Ha Noi's export turnover up by 7.2% in second quarter

The capital city saw growth in export turnover of US$4.856 billion during the second quarter of this year, a rise of 7.2 per cent, while import turnover fell by 8.6 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to Ha Noi Statistics Department.

The department reported that rising prices for export products and increasing volumes of exports, along with a gradual recovery in the world's economy, helped Ha Noi achieve the strong result.

Ha Noi's export turnover this month increases by 3.4 per cent over last year, hitting almost US$1 billion.

Eight out of 11 export items saw rising turnover, including computer accessories and peripheral units (up by 34.5 per cent), wire and cable (up by 32.6 per cent), handicrafts (up by 27 per cent), petroleum (up by 24 per cent), electronics (up by 23.2 per cent) and glass and glass products (up by 5 per cent), amongst others.

Agricultural products, coal, footwear and leather products saw a decrease in export turnover. Agricultural products and footwear and leather products fell by 18.4 and 16 per cent, respectively. Coal export turnover fell sharply by 37.9 per cent.

According to Cong Xuan Mui, director of the department, the capital mainly exported to China, Japan, the US, Cambodia, the EU, Singapore and South Korea.
