Quang Nam calls for investment
Central Quang Nam Province is an attractive investment destination due to its untapped development potential, according to local People's Committee Chairman Le Phuoc Thanh.
Speaking at an investment promotion conference in Tokyo on Wednesday, Thanh outlined favourable locations, comprehensive infrastructure, abundant labour resources and a series of investment incentives as major advantages in drawing foreign investors to the province.
He said that good relations between Viet Nam and Japan over the past years would lay a firm foundation for provincial firms to accelerate co-operation, especially in trade and investment, with Japanese counterparts.
Japanese businesses were called upon to invest in infrastructure development at the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone amongst others as well as in machinery and engineering, support and processing industries and construction material production.
"We will create the most favourable conditions for Japanese firms doing business in the province," Thanh said.
Japan-Viet Nam Cultural Association Chairman Toyoharu Tsutsui spoke highly of Quang Nam's potential for developing tourism in Hoi An ancient town and the My Son heritage site, which have been recognised as World Cultural Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
He asked Japanese businesses to learn more about the province's history to gain more success while investing in the province.
Japan is now one of Viet Nam's leading sources of foreign investment with 1,700 projects, capitalised at US$26 billion, said Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Trung.
He added that the Vietnamese Government would support Japanese businesses in ironing out snags in investment, and urged them to focus on high-tech and energy saving projects.
During the first quarter of this year, Japanese investors pumped $2.3 billion into the country, accounting for approximately 90 per cent of total foreign direct investment.
