Economic Zone to get wharves

Two projects have been licensed to build wharves in the Dung Quat Economic Zone, a key destination for foreign direct investment in central Viet Nam.

Total investment capital include more than VND1.4 trillion (US$67.4 million). Licenses will remain operational for 49 years since the day of granting.

The first wharf will be built to serve multi-purposes and include quays, storage yards, office buildings, traffic systems and other subsidiary works, meeting the demand of 30,000DWT to 50,000DWT vessels.

The 23ha wharf will be completed by 2017.

The second wharf will serve the Dung Quat ship-building factory and be built with a 145m long and 16m wide quay for loading goods from 3,000DWT vessels and a shelter for unloaded vessels of 56,000 DWT.

After its second phase on construction, the wharf will receive vessels of 30,000DWT to 50,000 DWT.

Dung Quat Economic Zone is almost halfway between Ha Noi and HCM City, some 860 km from each. This is a general and multi-sectoral economic zone that focuses on oil refining, petrochemicals, large-scale heavy industries such as steel milling, shipbuilding and repairing, mechanical engineering and cement production, automobile and equipment manufacturing, processing as well as consumer and export-oriented production.
