Stocks wrap week in green

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index strongly recovered, recouping previous losses to close week in green on February 17 as investors returned to buy shares on growing risk appetite.

The gauge of 302 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange salvaged 1.71 per cent, or 6.79 points, to close at 403.3 points. This week, the gauge lost 0.42 per cent.

Among the index members, 192 moved forward, 64 retreated, while 51 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading volume on the city bourse improved by 17 per cent while trading value dropped by 17 per cent over the previous day as around 40.8 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND548 billion.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) was the most active share in volume with 3.1 million shares changing hands.

Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) followed with 2.26 million shares traded.

Ocean Group Joint Stock Company (OGC) came next with 1.23 million shares.

Meca Vneco Investment & Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company (VES) soared 5.56 per cent to close at VND1,900.

Other gainers included Ha Do Group Joint Stock Company (HDG), General Materials Biochemistry Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (HSI), and Vitranschart Joint Stock Company (VST).

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) contracted 14.29 per cent to close at VND600.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) demolished 10 per cent to close at VND900.

Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) dropped 7.69 per cent to close at VND1,200.

The VN30 Index climbed 7.68 points, or 1.73 per cent, to end at 451.22 points. Among its 30 members, 25 stocks rallied, 3 declined and 2 closed unmoved.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north rose the second day, gaining 2 per cent, or 1.21 points, to close at 61.79 points. Around 36.99 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND303.37 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares rescued 0.38 per cent, or 0.13 points, to 34.48 points at 11.30 am local time. A total of 73,100 shares were traded at VND512 million.
