New entrant to offer ‘grown up’ travel options in Vietnam

Lured by booming tourism and greater expectations from tourists, Budget Rent-A-Car, one of the world’s best-known car rental companies in the world, has entered the Vietnam market.

“We are confident there is a substantial demand for high quality car rentals here,” said Dan Cohen, Budget Vietnam’s general manager.

Travelers to Vietnam surpassed 2.2 million in the first half of 2008, the most ever in a six-month time frame, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

“We’re positioning the traveling concierge services as an alternative to traditional package tours. We call it travel for grown-ups,” Cohen explained.

“People want to visit Vietnam; the numbers say as much. But they don’t necessarily want a tour guide with them every second – nor do they want to navigate from the airport to their hotels, or from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay, on their own. This is a middle ground where we see extraordinary market potential.”

The franchise rights for Budget Vietnam are owned by the Gannon Group, active in Vietnam for more than 15 years.

Gannon has supported the entry of many big-name brands into the local market, including L’Oreal, Nestle and most recently Budweiser.

Budget’s vehicles, complete with chauffeurs, will be made available from hotels and HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat Airport starting this month.

Customers can make online bookings at www.budget.com.vn.
